As we’ve discovered time and time again: PCs slowdown over
time. There are ways to prevent this, such as regular maintenance and operating
system reinstalls. That means users need to start considering
alternative options for their backup needs from now on.
While
you may be able to run some five or more years without any issues, largely
depending on use in that time but also manufacturing related factors, it is
fair to say that drives will fail eventually. This article will guide you through the process of setting up backup and
restoration tasks between PCs and your Synology NAS using the backup
application that comes with Windows.
The order in which you follow these steps is
very important. If you have questions about system restore not working please
contact technical support. The main problem is that most people don’t
make backups reliably, if ever. For consumers, the problems of what, when and
how to back stuff up are less urgent.
While this sounds like an awesome way to keep your system protected,
there are a couple of downsides. First, the backups take quite a while and are
normally done manually. I usually create a snapshot directly after I’ve
installed operating systems and applications on a computer and put all the
settings the way I want them. Here, ShadowMaker Free Edition is
recommendable.
The interface is easy to use — you can clone hard drives,
create bootable media to restore your Windows installation and it supports
internal drives, USB external drives as well as NAS (network attached
storage). The feature we loved the most is that you can choose to make a
full backup or incremental backup of the latest data.
This is when the PC runs its fastest and smoothest – no
additional crapware, no toolbars, no junk. It’s the situation how to do a system restore if things get sticky. Note
that: you may require more or less space depending on how large your Windows
drive is (mine is just 128 GB which means that the Toshiba drive can store
several backups at the same time.
